It has been alleged in the press recently that some healthcare providers in the UK with contracts to run NHS services may be avoiding corporation tax by borrowing money from parent companies based offshore.
Official government estimates put the cost of tax avoidance to the UK economy in 2012-2013 at £34 billion, yet according to this report very few private healthcare providers with NHS contracts pay a significant amount of corporation tax.
A spokesperson said “About Health Group is committed to conducting its business responsibly. This means we have never used any offshore status to avoid paying UK corporation tax, nor do we intend on doing so. We believe that every company has a moral responsibility to pay their fair share of tax, and we’re proud to say we’ll continue to do so.”
